C. Vibius Varus, 42 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 4.00 g, 12 h), Rome. Head of Bacchus to right, wearing wreath of ivy. Rev. VARVS / C•VIBIVS Panther leaning with his paws against garlanded altar surmounted by mask of Silen and thyrsus. Babelon (Vibia) 24. Crawford 494/36. RBW 1739. Sydenham 1138. A beautifully toned and attractive piece. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
